Using video conferencing technology it is possible to carry out a tele-consultation with a doctor in a different location. This will allow you to see and speak to the doctor at the other end of the link. The remote doctor will also be able to see and hear you. That way the doctor will be able to undertake a consultation without you having to travel.

Depending on the type of consultation, the remote doctor may look at your x-rays using the computer, may request the local clinician to examine you (for example taking your blood pressure, listening to your chest or checking your pulses). Whatever the type of consultation, you will be able to speak to the doctor and ask any questions you may have.

Remote Monitoring Systems

For those with a long term condition such as high blood pressure of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) monitoring symptoms may be of benefit. Using communications links such as broadband or simple phone lines it is possible to use home monitoring equipment to send results directly to the hospital or GP surgery.
