What Do I Need to Know?
Many countries are now using tele-consultation to support diagnosis and treatment. Tele-consultation is a modern method of visual communication between the consultant in their office or home and you the patient in the hospital. By using this method of communication you can be seen quickly by an experienced clinician, even if the clinician is at a different hospital or at home. You will be taken to an area where the television with a small camera attached is set up. The clinician will be able to see and hear you clearly, you will also be able to see and speak to the clinician.
This allows decisions to be made with you and the clinician about the treatment you will receive. At this stage you will also have the opportunity to ask the consultant questions. Your conversation with the consultant is entirely private and cannot be picked up by anyone else (apart from those present in the room with you). All information will be treated confidentially. If you cannot hear properly or don’t understand what is happening, please tell the doctor or nurse present and they will let the consultant know.
